The Blue River Park

Welcome to the Blue River Park

The provincial Parc de la Rivière Bleue (Blue River Park) is one of Grande Terre's natural wonders this is the most visited park in the country.

The essential

Welcome to the Land of Red Earth

Having booked your flight to New Caledonia, you will find here a land that is far from the stereotypes of coconut groves and fine sand beaches. The Parc de la Rivière Bleue, located in the centre of New Caledonia's Great South, is a land of red soils, whose colour contrasts with the blues of the rivers and the greens of the vegetation. Spread out over more than 20,000 hectares, the park will greet you with a procession of endemic plant and animal species.

Although the park takes its name from the Blue River, which flows through the middle of it, there are actually three rivers here, of which two feed the artificial Lake Yaté, where it is possible to paddle about in a kayak or canoe. A good spot for camping and an excellent site for hiking, the park is also a paradise for moutain biking and pedestrain tracks. Do not forget to take the entry card, at the entrance of the park.

Explore the Park Day and Night

The Sunken Forest Under the Moonlight

Filled with hundreds of tree trunks bleached by the water, the Forêt Noyée (Sunken Forest) is the most mysterious site in the Parc de la Rivière Bleue. The Aventure Pulsion company offers regular nocturnal canoe excursions, lasting two hours. This is a unique, romantic way to discover this fantastic place, under the light of the moon.

A Dive in the Waterfalls

If you would like to have a refreshing dip, take a walk out to the Haute Rivière Bleue  (High Blue River), which has one of New Caledonia's thickest forests. Think about bringing your swimming costume along, so you can enjoy a dive in one of the pretty waterfalls, for example, the Cornes du Diable (Devil's Horns).

Camping Near the Park

Although camping is not permitted in the Parc de la Rivière Bleue itself, you are allowed to camp nearby. The campsite Bois du Sud, a site with facilities, is located only 4 kilometres from the park.
